Feeling Stuck? These 3 Patterns Might Be Holding You Back

Feeling Stuck? These 3 Patterns Might Be Holding You Back

You’re not alone if things feel a bit stuck or scattered right now — I’ve been there too.
And I see it every day in the brilliant women I work with through Women’s Business Network and my 1-1 Empower Hours.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the doing — head down, pushing forward — without realising we’re running ourselves into the ground, or losing connection with what really matters.

Sometimes, we need to pause, breathe, and ask ourselves:

Are the actions I’m taking actually moving my business — and my life — forward?

Not perfectly.
Not with every duck in a row.
Just in a way that feels good, sustainable, and true to who we are becoming.

If that question hits a nerve, you’re not failing — you’re ready for a reset.

Here are three patterns that can keep even the most capable women feeling stuck — and some ways you can start moving forward gently, with more energy, creativity, and freedom.

You’re passionate. You’re ambitious. You’re full of ideas — and that’s a beautiful strength.
But when everything feels urgent and important at the same time, it’s easy to lose momentum.
You start a bit of this, a bit of that… and end up feeling like nothing is truly moving.

At our recent WBN Business Clinic, we talked about this exact challenge — and a simple but powerful solution:
create an ideas folder or board.

Your ideas are still important. They’re still part of your bigger vision.
They’re just not for right now — and that’s okay.
Having a space to capture them means they’re safe, not forgotten, and you give yourself permission to focus fully on what matters most today.

And just to be completely honest — I recognise myself in every one of these patterns, because they’ve been part of my journey too (and still are from time to time).
We’re never a finished version of ourselves.
We’re always learning, evolving, growing.

💡 Try this:
Take some time to brain-dump everything pulling at your attention. Then ask yourself:

“Which of these would move me forward most right now?”
That’s where your focus belongs.

And the rest?
It’s waiting patiently for the right time. You don’t need to do it all today.

If you’re used to doing things on your own, asking for help can feel uncomfortable — even unnatural.
I spent years thinking I had to figure it all out by myself — that needing support meant I wasn’t strong enough.

But what I’ve learned (and continue to relearn) is that asking for help isn’t weakness.
✨ It’s leadership.
✨ It’s wisdom.
✨ It’s recognising that we grow faster, more sustainably, and with more joy when we don’t try to carry it all alone.

💡 Try this:
When you feel stuck, ask yourself:

“Who could lighten this load — even just a little?”
It might be a mentor, a peer, a coach, or a trusted friend.
Sometimes, one honest conversation is enough to unlock the clarity and energy you need.

You deserve support just as much as you offer it to others.

Busy doesn’t always equal productive.

When you’re deep in the day-to-day tasks — replying to messages, updating websites, posting content — it can feel like you’re making progress.
But unless you regularly step back, you can end up building a business that feels heavy instead of freeing.

I’ve learned (and now teach) that working on your business — even if it’s just for an hour — changes everything.

💡  Try this:
Give yourself permission to pause.

Take yourself somewhere different — a walk by the water, a cosy cafe, a quiet corner — and ask:

  • What’s flowing naturally right now?
  • What feels heavy or draining?
  • What do I want to create more space for?

You don’t need to change who you are to be successful. You don’t need to fit someone else’s idea of what productivity should look like.

Later this year, we’ll be welcoming a guest speaker to WBN who will be exploring exactly this — The psychology of productivity: understanding who we are, how we operate best, and why we don’t need to force ourselves into boxes that don’t fit.

It’s not about becoming someone new. It’s about becoming more fully yourself — with more time, space, and freedom to do what lights you up.

You are Closer Than You Think

If you’re recognising yourself in any of these patterns, please know — you’re not broken, and you’re not behind.

  • You’re evolving
  • You’re learning
  • You’re building something real — at your pace, in your own way.

The more we learn, the more tools we gather, the more we realise that these moments of feeling stuck or scattered aren’t failures.
They’re invitations to reset, reconnect, and realign.

And the more tools you have in your toolbox, the faster you can catch yourself when these feelings arise — shifting gently back into focus instead of letting them derail you.
